Do you feel like your spey casting is perfect? Do you feel like there is no room for improvement? Yeah, me either. If you’re like me, you feel like you have a lot of room for improvement.
I’ve been fly fishing my entire life but only recently picked up spey casting. I have caught a lot of fish on the spey rod, but know I have a long way to go until I feel good about my cast. I have made a pact with myself to put in the time to become an expert.
I know what you’re thinking – An Expert? This isn’t going to happen over night, I know.
But, this is the year that I take it to another level and I want you to follow my journey. I will be connecting with some of the best spey casters in the business and want you to learn as I go.
New Spey Casting Updates
Spey day: I’ll be heading up to the Spey Day on the Klickitat this weekend with the family. I’m looking forward to chatting with Trey Combs and others. I’ll bring a few tips that I learned after the weekend.
Audio Interview: I interviewed Ron Lauzon from the theflyfishinginstructor.com to talk about fly casting and his history in the business. Here’s the link to the audio interview.
Federation of Fly Fishers: I attened the Federation of Fly Fishers workshop to become a casting instructor. I learned a ton about fly casting and will share this in an upcoming article.
I have been connecting with a bunch of great fly fisherman who have done a really good job of explaining the spey cast. One of the best was from Pete Humphries where he does the best job I have seen in an audio interview here.
That link was from the Anchored podcast but I will have Pete on our new fly fishing podcast very soon. Go here to check out the updated podcasts.
The only challenge of the show is that I have so many guests and not enough time to get to everyone.
I recently interviewed Brian Chou on all things two handed and have a great interview to share here.
I will hopefully be getting on the river with Brian to shed some light on things I might be able to improve.
I want you to see my journey so you will be inspired to take that next step. I will be providing updates as I go here with tips that I hope will help you feel better about your cast and catch more steelhead.
